6th Grade Boys Hoop News…

Cohasset’s 6th Grade Boys Travel Basketball Team lined up to do battle against neighboring Hull Friday night at home in another close contest that went down to the wire. Known for their toughness and talent, Hull never fails to play hard from start to finish…and this night was no different. A well balanced game on both ends of the court…this match-up showcased the depth on both benches. A terrific team effort by both clubs kept this game within a few points either way for the entire 28 minutes of play.

Zach Coggins displayed a wonderful touch to lead the team in scoring with a half-dozen points…all great shots from the perimeter…excellent decision making for this big-time playmaker. Joe Buckley never let up with a tenacious attack on both sides of the ball…excellent hustle and a beast on the boards…complementing Joe at forward is another big gun…Mark Brown. Mark made some clutch baskets down low and from the foul line along with coming up…and down…with some timely rebounds. More big man moves…Mark Rattenbury came up with some nice lay-ups from close range off some hard fought rebounds to score four points…Jack Stanganelli continues to enhance his game with great decisions on defense and excellent position play…and Connor Green made a nice bucket off the glass to keep the game close, as well as playing some stingy defense.

At the half, Hull led by a pair but Cohasset came out firing in the third quarter…leading to a 6-0 run that put the home-team ahead. But Hull wouldn’t let this game get away…they fought back hard with some great jump shots and good fouling shooting. Brendan O’Connell showed great ball control serving some nice dishes to his wing men along with terrific hustle all night…Jack Conte played great against the press and denied the opponent any easy attempts at the hoop. Back and forth, both teams matched each other point for point…right down to the last minute…and that’s when things tightened up. Timmy Cavanaro was matched up against Hull’s big man in the middle late in the game…with the score tied 18-18 and Hull with the possession…the plan was to get the ball in the middle for the go–ahead points…NOT! Timmy C. had another plan in mind…how about two clutch steals to get the ball to Cohasset’s money man…Rocco Laugelle. Rocco would convert the key turnovers into points while booking a few trips to the foul line along the way. The capacity crowd witnessed some excellent finish work by Master Laugelle and the home team. Tremendous game plan and execution all around in this 23-20 win to bring the sixth graders up to .500 on the season at 2-2…great stuff!
