Our Cohasset High School Basketball Tradition

Dear Cohasset Basketball Community,

As a graduate of Cohasset High School and proud alum of the men’s basketball program, I wanted to enlighten you on the rich basketball tradition our program has enjoyed over the years.  It is important that current players recognize the successes of the program and the achievements many of our individual players have attained including successful collegiate careers.   In doing so, I hope you will see that my high standards are achievable, but they require dedication, loyalty, and focus.

The Cohasset men’s basketball program has produced eight South Shore League championships, four South Sectional Tournament finalists, two Massachusetts State championships, three 1,000 point scorers and one 2,000 thousand point scorer, which still ranks second all-time in the state of Massachusetts.  Since 1992, the basketball program has also produced seven post season tournament berths.

In the past 15 years the Cohasset basketball program has also graduated thirteen collegiate basketball players, attending some of the top academic and athletic colleges in the country. Six of the thirteen players were captains of their college teams.

For a small community, these successes are an outstanding achievement.  They are even more impressive when you consider that our school’s enrollment is always amongst the lowest of the teams that we compete against.  As head coach of the Cohasset basketball program, I take pride in our school and in our community. As members we should all embrace the positive aspects of what the school and the basketball program has to offer and most importantly we shall all want to stay and be a part of it.  Unfortunately, in the past we have had members of our basketball community that have chosen to go to attend private institutions.  It is important to note, that as a basketball program we have had the same success as most of the private institutions within the area, but most importantly we also have had the added benefit of feeling at home while being successful. As a student-athlete being a visible and viable part of your home town should be important to us all.  I ask that you understand the tradition this program has and that you dedicate yourself to improving athletically as well as scholastically, the success we achieve in our early years develops the foundation for the future.  You too can achieve these goals just like past Cohasset students, but you have to want to contribute and improve.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone past and present that has been involved in the Cohasset basketball program and I look forward to a strong future build on achievement and personal development.  Once again, thank you for your time and your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dorian Bryant
